The Roberto Clemente Man of the Year Award was first awarded in 1971 and given to the Major League baseball player who balances outstanding skills on the baseball field with civic responsibility. In 1972 the award, formerly know as the Commissioner's Award, was renamed to honor Roberto Clemente.
