Ottawa-St Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OSLIAA) History

University sports expanded in Canada throughout the 1950s, with many universities in Ontario looking to establish themselves. An intermediate league, the Ottawa–St. Lawrence Conference, had already been formed but many programs did not want to take on the expense of travelling several hundred miles for games. By 1959, enough programs were operating in southern Ontario to form a new intermediate league. The Ontario Intercollegiate Athletic Association began with five teams around the western edge of Lake Ontario. The league lost two teams to the top tier Quebec–Ontario Athletic Association. In their place, five new programs were added in 1962. The league disbanded mid-way through the year. When the league reformed in 1963 the teams were divided into two groups. In 1971, the four leagues in Ontario and Quebec were realigned along provincial borders.

Each year the Ottawa-St Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association (OSLIAA) declares a seaon champion and holds a conference tournament to determine its representative for the NCAA Tournament.
