"March Madness" starts with 68 college basketball teams, ending with the Final Four Weekend when a champion is finally declared. The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is a men's college basketball tournament operated by the NCAA.. The post-season tournament, which started in 1938, is played in March and April. The final rounds of the tournament are played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
