1947 NIT Basketball Tournament

The 1947 National Invitation Tournament was held at Madison Square Garden, New York City. It consisted of eight (8) teams teams in a single game elimination format. In the championship game the Utah Utes coached by Vadal Peterson, defeated the Kentucky Wildcats to claim their first NIT title. Vern Gardner of Utah was named he tournament MVP. The Utah Utes's Wataru Misaka went on to join the New York Knicks becoming the first person of color to play in modern professional basketball.
