1976 NIT Basketball Tournament

The 1976 NIT Tournament played at Madison Square Gardens in New York City returned to the 12 team format for one year only as the NCAA tournament opening up its eligibility to more teams. The Kentucky Wildcats coached by Joe B. Hall defeated the Charlotte 49ers to claim their second NIT title. Cedric Maxwell of Charlotte was named the tournament MVP.
