The 2018 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2018 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The 81th annual tournament began March 13 on campus sites ended on March 29 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Penn State Nittany Lions coached by Pat Chambers won their second NIT title, defeating the Utah Utes in the championship game. Lamar Stevens of Penn State was named the tournament MVP. Changes included were games were played in 10-minute quarters instead of 20-minute halves with he free-throw lane revised to 16 feet (4.9 m) wide, feet (3.7 m) instead of the 12 feet in the current NCAA rules.The shot clock was reset to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound. |
