Eight are charter members from the league's inaugural 1958 season: the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks (formerly Eskimos), Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Although expansion teams have joined the league throughout its history, especially during the league's brief expansion into the United States, only the Ottawa Redblacks continue to play in the league today.
