NCAA Football - Ontario University Athletics - OUA Champions

The Yates Cup is the oldest continuously-awarded football trophy in North America, dating back to 1898. The trophy was not awarded during the years of World War I and World War II. Until 1971 it was awarded to the winner of the Senior Intercollegiate Football League (predominately McGill, Western, Toronto and Queen's). From 1971 to 1996 it was awarded to the OUAA football champion, and it is now awarded to the OUA champion. The Yates Cup was donated by Dr. H. B. Yates of McGill University. It surpasses both the Grey Cup (1908) and the Little Brown Jug (awarded to the winner of the Michigan-Minnesota Game, which began in 1909) in longevity. The University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto have both been awarded the Yates Cup 26 times each, the highest total of any institution.
