Womens NCAA Division I College Hockey - Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Champions
Women’s hockey in the ECAC did not begin with the advent of the Division I league. Prior to the 1993-94 season, ECAC teams played regular season schedules through a scheduling agreement. The ECAC hosted a post season tournament from 1984 to 1993 and teams were selected for participation by committee. From 1984 to 1988, the tournament featured both Division I and Division III teams vying for one ECAC crown. From 1989 to 1992, the ECAC sponsored tournaments for Divisions I and III. The 1993 championship saw both Division I and Division III teams once again challenging for the title. With the creation of the Division I league in 1994, teams advanced to the ECAC Division I Championship based on the regular season standings. Those teams that did not compete in the Division I league were considered independent and were not eligible for post season play until the creation of the Division III league two seasons later. In 2001-02, the ECAC will crown four league champions, two each at the Division I level and the Division III level.
