The New Jersey Devils began their NHL life in Kansas City Missouri, as the Kanas City Scouts. Their tenure in Kansas City only lasted until 1978 when the National Hockey League approved the team's move to Denver. The Colorado Rockies struggled amd in 1982 the franchise was purchased by John McMullen, John Whitehead, and Brendan Byrne, relocated to New Jersey. The franchise was renamed to the current New Jersey Devils. |

Note:*New Jersey franchise was originally added to the NHL in the 1974-75 season,
under the name Kansas City Scouts. For the 1976-77 season this franchise was
moved to Colorado, and named the Colorado Rockies. For the 1982-83 season this
franchise was moved to East Rutherford New Jersey, becoming the New Jersey Devils.
