NHL New York Islanders Team Information |
| The New York Islanders hockey club was conceived as the NHL decided to put a hockey team in the newly built Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Islanders opened their innagural season in October, 1972. |
Through the draft process the Islanders built the franchise into a contender and won their first Stanley Cup in 1980. |
