Nashville Predators Team History

The Nashville Predators made their NHL debut in the 1998-99 season. The expansion franchise owned by Leipold Hockey Holdings LLC was awarded in 1997. The team originally played in the new Nashville Arena, later renamed the Gaylord Entertainment Center. The team name Predators was announced by majority owner Craig Leipold and president Jack Diller. For their logo, the Predators chose the image of a sabre-toothed tiger which was native in prehistoric times to what is today the Nashville area. They hired veteran Washington Capitals general manager David Poile and brought in Barry Trotz as the franchise's first coach.
