Stanley Cup 1925-26 Season
The 1925-26 Stanley Cup was the last played for by any team outside of the National Hockey League. With the demise of the professional Western Hockey League (WHL) after the season, the only professional league remaining became the NHL. Although efforts were made to revitalize hockey in the west, the leagues never again played for the Stanley Cup. After 33 years (the Cup was first awarded in 1892) the Stanley Cup would be controlled by one hockey league. From this year on, only National Hockey League teams could compete for the Stanley Cup.
The 1926 Stanley Cup finals were played in the historic Montreal Forum. The Montreal Maroons shut out the Victoria Cougars in three of the four games played winning the Stanley Cup.
National Hockey League (NHL) pages on Rauzulu's Street:
^ topThe National Hockey League (NHL) agreed that it's champion would play the champion of the Western Hockey League for the Stanley Cup. The format was a best of 5 game championship for the Stanley Cup. The NHL and WHL championships were determined by the second and third place teams playing a two game total goal series, the winner playing the first place club in a two game total goal series.
The last season for this was 1925-1926 as the Western Hockey League folded after the season was over.
