National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1935-1936

National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1935-1936

The league played the 1935-36 season as a 48 game schedule. Off the ice the Montreal Canadiens were sold to the Canadian Arena Company. The St. Louis Eagles franchise was purchased by the NHL Board of Goveners, with the players relocated using a dispersal draft. This left the NHL with 8 teams for the season.

The Detroit Red Wings led the American Division with 24 wins and 56 points, while the Montreal Maroons won the Canadian Division with 22 wins and 54 points.

The Stanley Cup semi finals between the Maroons and Red Wings resulted in a game one, that was finally resolved 1-0 at the 16:30 mark of the sixth overtime period. Detroit went on in game 2 to win 1-0 again and finally wrapped up the series with a 2-1 game.

Meanwhile the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins and the New York Americans to reach the Stanley Cup finals. Detroit took the series 3 games to 1 for their first ever Stanley Cup.
