National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1940-1941
The Boston Bruins had five of the league's top 10 scorers, led by Hart Trophy winner Bill Cowley, whose 62 points was 18 more than anyone else compiled. They also had goalie Frank Brimsek, who posted six shutouts. For the fourth year in a row, the Bruins led the league during the regular season.
The Bruins had a tough semi-final series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they finally won it in seven games. Then they faced the Detroit Red Wings, who had beaten the New York Rangers and Chicago Black Hawks to reach the Stanley Cup final.
Boston opened the series with two 1-goal victories and followed up with a pair of 2-goal wins to complete the first four-game sweep in finals history.
