National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1945-1946
With the end of World War II, a host of stars returned from the service. With two or more years out of hockey many found that returning to the league was not feasible.
The Montreal Canadiens won the regular season and after sweeping the Chicago Blackhawks in the semi finals beat the Boston Bruins in a five-game Stanley Cup final. Three of the games went to overtime and Montreal won two of them.
