National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1948-1949
The NHL played a 60 game schedule. Led their "Production Line" of Sid Abel, Gordie Howe, and Ted Lindsay, the Detroit Red Wings had the NHL's highest scoring offense. Abel won the Hart Trophy and Detroit finished atop the league ahead of the Boston Bruins.
The Maple Leafs eliminated the Bruins in five games while Detroit eliminated Montreal in a seven hame series. In the Stanley Cup final Toronto swept Detroit to claim the Stanley Cup.
