National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1950-1951
The Detroit Red Wings finished in first place again, becoming the first team to finish the regular season with more than 100 points. Gordie Howe led the NHL in goals and assists, while goalie Terry Sawchuk won the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie.
Toronto in second had 41 wins and 95 points. The Maple Leafs eliminated the Boston Bruins in five games and the Montreal Canadiens upset the Red Wings in a six-game semifinal.
All five games of the final Stanley Cup series went into overtime, with Toronto winning four of them and the Stanley Cup.
