National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1953-1954
Getroit for the sixth straight year finshed first during the regular season.
Gordie Howe led the league in assists and overall scoring. Rocket Richard's 37 goals led the league and Detroit's Red Kelly, won the first Norris Trophy as the best defenseman in the NHL. Harry Lumley of Toronto won the Vezina Trophy.
Toronto were eliminated by the Red Wings in five games, while Montreal swept the Bruins in the other semifinal series.
The Red Wings defeated Montreal in the Stanley Cup finals in seven games.
