National Hockey League (NHL) Season Review 1961-1962
The Montreal Canadiens finished in first place, followed by Toronto, Chicago and New Tork. Jacques Plante won both the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender snd the Hart Trophy as the most valuable player.
Bobby Hull joined the 50 goal club when he scored his 50th goal in the final game of the season (70 games played). Hull shared the scoring lead with 84 points, with New York's Andy Bathgate.
In the semifinal series, the third-place Blackhawks eliminated the Canadiens by winning four in a row after Montreal had won the first two games. The second-place Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New York Rangers, also in six games.
In the Stanley Cup finals, Toronto defeated Chicago to win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1951.
