NASCAR - Craftsman Truck Series
Originally known as the SuperTruck Series when it was first formed in 1995, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series features pickup trucks that produce just over 700 horsepower and can reach speeds of 190 MPH.
The series has gone through a variety of rule changes over the years including halfway point, 10 minute pit stops. Since the series was originally run on short tracks many of these reaceways did not have pit areas that could be used during a race. In addition to keep the cost of racing down many rules involving tire changes and the amount of tires available for a race were implimented. These rules tended to separate the truck series from other NASCAR ventures and it soon developed a loyal fan base. It was also quickly adopted by some of the Cup series teams as a development area for drivers.
Today the Craftsman Truck Series applies the majority of rules as the Cup series including pit stops and tire changes, although to this day the total number of tires available is limited. The racing tends to very competative with many young drivers honing their skills.
