National Football League (NFL) Champions (Prior 1967)
American Football League Champions (Prior 1967)
NFL/AFL Championship (1967-1970)
NFL Championship - Super Bowl (1971-Present)

Prior to 1967 the AFL and NFL declared separate champions which did not meet in a overall championship. From 1967 to 1970 the Super Bowl was the championship game between these two leagues. With the merger complete in 1971 the game became the championship of the NFL. The NFL playoffs consist of a Wild Card elimination game, the Divisional playoffs, the conference finals (AFC and NFC) and finally the Super Bowl pitting the conference champions against each other to determine the NFL champion.

A complete list of NFL champions is located under the NFC and NFL champions listing. The complete list of AFC and AFL champions is included under the AFC championship page.
