Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds - Cup Series Race Winners

The NASCAR Cup Series is a stock car racing series owned and operated by NASCAR (the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing). NASCAR’s premier series had been known as the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series since Jan. 1, 2017, rebranded in 2020. It holds races over the season at tracks located in the United States both road courses and ovals. Although the roots of the series was in the use of "stock" manufacturers vehicles, todays cars are custom built automobiles powered by custom built V8 engines.

Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds - Cup Series Race Winners

Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds started as a horse racing facility back in 1908. Motor racing came along much later in 1939. The racing was organised and promoted by Joe Littlejohn, who was of the 35 peopled Bill France Sr's, 1947 meeting, leading to the formation of Nascar. Piedmont was a major hub in Nascar's first two decades. Twenty two Grand National Series races were held there between 1953 and 1966, as well as two Nascar Convertable Series events in 1956 and 1957. After Nascar withdrew, some races were held during the Autumn Fair. The track closed in 1986.
